PRESENTATION OF OUR PRESIDENT SHARON
Thank you for the opportunity to serve the Friends – It is an honor to be a part of such an amazing team. To step in Carolyn’s shoes is going to be a tough act to follow; since despite her actual shoe size being quite small, the footprint she leaves behind is enormous. It has shaped the charitable foundation to what it is today.
When I first moved here, I recall how Carolyn welcomed me as a volunteer and assisted me to integrate into our wonderful community. I am sure I can speak for us all tonight, when I say that she has made the Friends hold a special place in our hearts forever.
So, Carolyn mentioned the future; when things change, it is natural for there to be uncertainty, and although we cannot control the future, our past shapes it; so I want to assure you of three things.
o Carolyn’s legacy will continue – The Committee consists of the same great members, each bringing their own skills and experience – Carolyn will continue to manage the shop, and Sofia will continue to help with the finances – So we will have a steady set of hands on the reins to guide us forward.
o Although I cannot perform Carolyn’s role in the same way – she is a superwoman – I will bring the same leadership, support, and governance.
o Our constitution will always govern any changes we make in the future by committee vote and volunteer feedback for the best of the community we serve.
So now, the most important thing to do tonight , on behalf of the committee, is to thank three special people that we are so lucky to have on board and for all that they have done.
To Carolyn – thank you for your presidential leadership; dedication, passion and outstanding professionalism, you have grown the organisation year on year; always putting the Friends first, making sure everyone feels that they belong, and supported, tackling every challenge with a positive approach.
To Sofia – thank you for wise, reliable, capable support and guidance. Your energy and enthusiasm are contagious and your passion for the Friends exudes.
To Richard – thank you for doing so many jobs, always saying “yes” – to everyone and anyone for anything at all with such a lovely attitude.
You and Carolyn are an amazing team.
